1

Get World of Warcraft

To play Classic WoW, you need:

1
A Battle.net account
2
The Battle.net desktop app
3
An active WoW subscription or game time
4
The World of Warcraft Classic client installed

You do not need to buy a separate "Classic WoW" box. Classic is accessed through the World of Warcraft section of Battle.net.

2

Install Battle.net

1
Go to the official Battle.net website.
2
Download the Battle.net desktop app.
3
Install it on your computer.
4
Log in with your Battle.net account.

If you do not have a Battle.net account yet, create one first.

3

Subscribe or Add Game Time

Classic WoW requires active World of Warcraft game time. You can use:

1
A monthly subscription
2
Prepaid game time
3
Another active WoW subscription option from Battle.net

Once your account has active game time, you should be able to install and play World of Warcraft Classic.

4

Install World of Warcraft Classic

In the Battle.net app:

1
Click World of Warcraft.
2
Look for the Game Version dropdown near the Play/Install button.
3
Select World of Warcraft Classic.
4
Click Install.
5
Wait for the installation to finish.
6
Click Play.
⚠️ Make sure you are installing World of Warcraft Classic, not just modern World of Warcraft.
5

Realm and Faction Setup

Before creating your character, make sure you are using the correct setup for the community.

Realm: Mankrik
Faction: Alliance
Guild Name: The Couch
⚠️ In WoW, your realm and faction matter. If you pick the wrong one, you may not be able to easily play with everyone else.

Do not create your character on a different realm or faction if you want to play with the community.

6

Choose the Correct Realm

To join the community:

1
Open World of Warcraft Classic.
2
Go to the realm list.
3
Select Mankrik.
4
Confirm you are on the correct realm before creating your character.

Realm types:

N
Normal — relaxed world, enemy players cannot freely attack you unless you flag for PvP.
P
PvP — enemy players can attack you in contested areas.
R
RP — roleplay-focused realm.
R+
RP-PvP — roleplay realm with PvP rules.

For new players, make sure you select Mankrik exactly so you can play with the Couch community.

7

Choose the Correct Faction

The guild will be primarily Alliance, but players are free to choose whichever faction they want.

⚔️ Alliance — Primary
🐗 Horde — Welcome too

Your faction decides which races you can play and who you can group with.

If you want to play with the guild and join most group activities, create an Alliance character.
If you prefer Horde, you are still welcome in the community, but you will not be able to group with Alliance players in-game.
Live Characters and Stream Characters must be Alliance to participate in community events and group content.

Choose what sounds fun, but keep these guidelines in mind depending on how you want to play.

8

Create Your Character

Once you are on the correct realm and faction:

1
Click Create New Character.
2
Choose your race.
3
Choose your class.
4
Customize your character.
5
Pick a name.
6
Enter the world.

Do not worry about making the "perfect" character. Classic WoW is slower, stranger, and more old-school than many modern games. The goal is to explore, learn, and enjoy the adventure.

9

Beginner Class Notes

Every class can play and level through the world, but they feel very different. Some beginner-friendly choices:

HunterGood solo class, has a pet later
MageStrong damage, useful food and water
WarriorSimple idea, harder early game
PriestStrong healer, good for groups
RogueSneaky melee damage
WarlockCaster with demons/pets
DruidFlexible, can fill multiple roles
PaladinAlliance only
ShamanHorde only

Pick what sounds fun. Do not let anyone pressure you into a "perfect" meta choice.

10

First Things to Do In Game

When you first load in:

1
Look around.
2
Talk to nearby quest-givers.
3
Accept your first quests.
4
Read the quest text.
5
Kill nearby enemies if the quest asks you to.
6
Loot everything.
7
Sell junk items to vendors.
8
Ask questions if you are confused.

Classic WoW does not always tell you exactly where to go. Getting a little lost is part of the game.

11

Join the Guild

Once the guild is created, ask for an invite in Discord or in-game. When asking for a guild invite, include:

1
Your Discord name
2
Your character name
3
Your faction
4
Your realm
💬 Example: "Hey, I'm Roscoe on Discord. My character is Couchcaptain. Can I get a guild invite?"
12

Community Play Style

This guild is meant to be beginner-friendly. The goal is not to rush everyone to max level — it is to give the community another place to play together.

Please avoid:

Spoiling every quest before people discover it.
Pressuring new players into perfect builds.
Mocking bad gear, weird talents, or slow leveling.
Forcing people into addons they do not want.
Turning every group into a speedrun.
Dragging new players through content before they understand it.
Acting like there is only one "correct" way to play.

Veteran players are welcome. Just remember that some people are seeing Azeroth for the first time. Let them have the adventure.

13

Addons Are Optional

Some players use addons to help with quests, maps, bags, auction prices, or UI changes. Addons are optional.

Recommended beginner approach:

1
Start simple.
2
Learn the basic controls.
3
Add extra tools later if you want them.

No one is required to install addons unless the community later decides one is needed for a specific event.

14

Basic Survival Tips

Classic WoW can be dangerous. Keep these in mind:

1
Do not fight too many enemies at once.
2
Eat and drink between fights when needed.
3
Repair your gear when you visit town.
4
Train new abilities from your class trainer.
5
Save useful items.
6
Read quests carefully.
7
Use the road when traveling.
8
Run away if a fight goes badly.
9
Ask for help with elite quests.
10
Do not jump into strange caves alone unless you are ready for trouble.

Death is normal. Running back to your body is part of Classic WoW.

15

Grouping and Dungeons

Classic WoW is much more fun with other players. When grouping:

1
Be patient.
2
Let people learn.
3
Ask before needing on loot.
4
Do not pull extra enemies on purpose.
5
Listen to the tank or group lead.
6
Help new players understand what is happening.
7
Keep the pace comfortable.

Early dungeons can be a great community event, especially for new players.

16

Live Characters / Stream Characters

The community may also have optional Live Characters or Stream Characters later. This means some people may choose to keep a specific character for stream nights, group events, or community progression.

✅ This is optional. You do not need a Live Character to be part of the guild. You can play normally, level at your own pace, and still be part of the community.
17

Need Help?

If you are stuck, ask in Discord. When asking for help, include:

1
Your character name
2
Your realm
3
Your faction
4
Your current zone
5
What quest or problem you are stuck on
6
A screenshot, if possible
💬 Example: "I'm on my level 7 Human Warrior in Elwynn Forest. I can't find where to turn in this quest. Can someone point me in the right direction?"
18

Most Important Rule

Do not worry about being perfect.

Classic WoW is supposed to feel big, strange, slow, dangerous, and memorable.

Explore.
Make mistakes.
Ask questions.
Help each other.
Enjoy the adventure.
