Classic WoW Beginner Guide

Four things, in this order:

1. A Battle.net account
2. The Battle.net desktop app
3. An active WoW subscription or game time
4. The World of Warcraft Classic client installed

There is no separate "Classic WoW" purchase. Classic is included with a standard World of Warcraft subscription and is installed from the same place as modern WoW.

1. Go to the official Battle.net download page.
2. Download the Battle.net desktop app.
3. Install it on your computer.
4. Log in with your Battle.net account.

Classic requires active World of Warcraft game time. Any of these work:

• A monthly subscription
• Prepaid game time

One subscription covers every version of WoW, so the same game time gets you into Classic Era and modern WoW.

In the Battle.net app:

1. Click World of Warcraft in your game list.
2. Set the region to The Americas.
3. Set the version to WoW Classic Era.
4. Click Install and wait for it to finish.
5. Click Play.

Both controls sit next to the Play or Install button. Depending on your app version, the region selector may be tucked under the gear icon and Game Settings, next to the account selector.

The Classic versions share one download, so switching between them is just a dropdown change before you press Play.

Before you create a character, make sure you are set up to land in the same world as everyone else.

1. Launch WoW Classic Era with the region set to The Americas.
2. Open the realm list.
3. Select Mankrik.
4. Confirm the realm name on screen before you create anything.
5. If Mankrik is not listed, back out to Battle.net and check the region and version. You cannot change region from the realm screen.

The Couch plays Alliance. This one is not optional.

Your faction decides which races you can play and who you can group with, and the two factions cannot group, trade, or chat with each other in Classic.

• Create an Alliance character so you can join the guild and group with everyone else.
• A Horde character cannot be invited to the guild or take part in community events.
• Stream Characters must be Alliance.

Once you are on the correct version, realm, and faction:

1. Click Create New Character.
2. Choose your race.
3. Choose your class.
4. Customize your appearance.
5. Pick a name.
6. Enter the world.

Do not stress about a perfect first character. Classic is slower and more old-school than most modern games, and rerolling is normal.

Every class can level through the world, but they feel very different early on.

Pick what sounds fun. Nobody here is going to push you toward a meta build.

Ask for an invite in Discord or in-game. Include:

1. Your Discord name
2. Your character name
3. Your faction
4. Your realm

The guild is beginner-friendly. The goal is not to rush everyone to max level, it is to give the community another place to hang out together.

Please avoid:

• Spoiling every quest before people discover it.
• Pressuring new players into perfect builds.
• Mocking bad gear, odd talents, or slow leveling.
• Forcing people into addons they do not want.
• Turning every group into a speedrun.
• Dragging new players through content before they understand it.
• Acting like there is only one correct way to play.

Veteran players are very welcome. Just remember that some people are seeing Azeroth for the first time. Let them have the adventure.

Some members keep a specific character for stream nights, group events, and community progression. Those are called Stream Characters. Those characters should always be within 2 levels (above or below) of Roscoe's Stream Character if they want to participate in dungeons or group quests.

1. Look around.
2. Talk to nearby quest-givers.
3. Accept your first quests.
4. Read the quest text, it is the only map you get.
5. Kill nearby enemies if the quest asks for it.
6. Loot everything.
7. Sell junk to vendors.
8. Ask questions when you are confused.

Classic does not always tell you where to go. Getting a little lost is part of the game.

• Do not fight too many enemies at once.
• Eat and drink between fights.
• Repair your gear when you are in town.
• Train new abilities from your class trainer every couple of levels.
• Keep useful items, sell the rest.
• Stick to the roads when traveling.
• Run away if a fight goes badly.
• Ask for help with elite quests.
• Do not wander into strange caves alone unless you are ready for trouble.

Death is normal. Running back to your body is a core Classic experience.

Classic is much better with other people. When you group up:

• Be patient.
• Let people learn.
• Ask before rolling Need on loot.
• Do not pull extra enemies on purpose.
• Listen to the tank or group lead.
• Explain what is happening to new players.
• Keep the pace comfortable for everyone.

Early dungeons make great community nights, especially for first-timers.
